The Outdoor Skills area includes shelter and tables for merit badge instruction, a ropeyard, and an axe yard. It also features displays of Scoutcraft skills. Camping merit badge is offered only to Scouts who are at least First Class in rank. Scouts can work on their Paul Bunyan award during activity period.  For the first time in a few years, Outdoor Skills will be the home to health/fitness related and First aid merit badges.

 

Camping:  Teaches basic Scout camping skills. Participants must be at least First Class in rank. Complete requirement # 9 at home. Difficulty: Moderate.

 

  Citizenship in the Community: Teaches Scouts about their community.  Some requirements (#3) should be completed at home.  Difficulty: Moderate.

 

  Citizenship in the Nation: Teaches Scouts about the Nation.  Some requirements (#2) should be completed at home. Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Citizenship in the World: Teaches Scouts about the world.  Difficulty: Moderate

 

Emergency Preparedness:  Teaches how to avoid and deal with accidents.  Participants must have First Aid merit badge.  Some requirements should be completed at home (#8).  Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Fire Safety: Teaches Scouts how to be safe around fires. Some requirements should be completed at home (#11). Difficulty: easy.

 

First Aid:  Teaches basic first aid skills. Good idea to bring first aid kit (#2b) to camp with you. Difficulty: Easy.

 

Orienteering:  Reviews how to use a map and compass.  Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Pioneering:  Reviews splices and lashings and how to use them to make structures.  Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Public Speaking: Teaches Scouts the basic’s about public speaking. Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Safety:  Reviews how to prevent accidents.  Some requirements should be

completed at home (#1, #2, #4).  Difficulty: Hard.

 

Sports: Teaches Scouts about the basics of sportsmanship. Some requirements should be completed at home (#3). Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Wilderness Survival:  Teaches how to survive in adverse conditions. 

Difficulty: Moderate.

 

Personal Fitness:  Teaches Scouts how to keep themselves physically fit.

Some requirements (#’s 7 and 8) should be completed prior to camp.

Difficulty: Moderate

 

Sports: Teaches Scouts about the basics of sportsmanship.  Some requirements

(#3) should be completed at home prior to camp.  Difficulty: Moderate

 

Athletics: Teaches training and fitness for track, field, and officiating.  Difficulty:

Moderate

 

Golf:  NEW this year, teaches the basics of the game of golf.  Scouts will have

the opportunity to golf at a local golf course.  There is a $25 program fee

associated for this badge.  Classes are limited to a maximum of 6, and scouts

must bring proper golf course attire (collared shirt, shorts, proper shoes; clubs

available on request).
