The Ecology/Conservation area features displays of animals, literature, and other items. A nature trail is available for Scouts to enjoy. The camp owns a telescope that Scouts taking astronomy merit badge can use. Fishing is also available in many of our lakes. The camp has a limited assortment of fishing gear, so it is a good idea to bring your own.
Astronomy: In-depth study of moon, stars and planets. Requires some writing (#8, #9) and extended nighttime observation. Difficulty: Moderate.
Energy: Scouts will learn the basics about energy. Some requirements should be completed at home (#6). Difficulty: Moderate.
Environmental Science: In-depth study of ecosystems in nature. Requires extended field work (#5) and 100 word report (#3). Difficulty: Hard.
Fishing: Teaches the basics of fishing. Difficulty: Easy. Must bring your own equipment.
Fish and Wildlife Management: Reviews conservation projects and how man protects animals. Difficulty: Moderate.
Forestry: In depth study of trees and their contribution to the environment and man. Difficulty: Moderate.
Insect Study: In-depth study of different insects. Difficulty: Moderate.
Mammal Study: An overview of mammals and how they interact with their environment. Difficulty: Easy.
Nature: A survey of the natural world around us. Some requirements should be completed at home (#4 BIRDS b). Difficulty: Moderate.
Reptile and Amphibian Study: Teaches how reptiles interact with their environment. Some requirements should be completed at home (#8). Difficulty: Moderate.
Soil and Water Conservation: Study of how land is important to man. Difficulty: Easy.
Space Exploration: Teaches Scouts about the parts of a rocket. Difficulty: Easy. Extra Costs: $10 for the rocket.
Theater: Scouts will learn the basic of theater. Difficulty: easy.
Weather: Teaches the basics about Meteorology. Difficulty: Moderate.
